La historia del Sáhara Occidental es una historia de resistencia, una de saqueo y una de colonialismo. Es una historia envuelta en ignorancia y misterio, ya que rara vez se discute en los medios internacionales.
Gueguerat is a small village located at the far southwest of Western Sahara, inching 11 km away from the border with Mauritania. Currently, it is under the control of Morocco, “which [they] regard as vital to trade with sub-Saharan Africa.” (Middle East Monitor).

¡Hola!
When I heard about this project, the first thing that crossed my mind was: this is why I am here, this is why I applied for UWC: helping people that are in real need. Making an effort to change the world and learn from it. I believe being part of a non-profit organization is a unique experience that can help you later in many different aspects and prepare you. It makes you think. For me, this is the solidification of solidarity between persons.

大家好!
I’m a first year from Taiwan. I joined this project because I believe I am able to make a difference for the Western Sahara refugees. As someone who is more privileged, I think it is only right to use my abilities and resources to empower them and help them to the best of my ability, so that they can meet their basic human needs. In an unfair world, all we can do is try to lessen the extent and try to better their quality of life. I hope my impact will not be limited to just making our website, social media, and logo colorful, but making the lives of these Western Sahrawi people a little more colorful as well.

!مَرْحَبا
I’m from Lebanon and graduated from United World College of Dilijan, Armenia. I was absolutely baffled by how I, especially as an Arab, had no clue about all of this. After that encounter, I decided that I really want to help, and decided to join the project, a project that is helping the underprivileged and the forgotten. We need more people talking about this issue and a lot more media coverage, and I aim to do that at my time being part of this team. It means a lot to me that I am able to be a part of such a project, that is doing tremendous good, and that I can see the tangible impacts of.

Добры дзень!
I’m from Belarus and I'm an alumnus of UWC Dilijan. From an early age I’ve been in love with geography. I’m not that inquisitive kid anymore but I still have the desire to explore. I strongly believe it’s our ethical responsibility to help people around us. And Under the Sun is one of these opportunities. I’m aiming to do it by showing people the unbiased picture of Western Sahara through different media projects in order to turn the “No data” region into another colorful piece on the map.

¡Buenos días!
I am a graduate at UWC Dilijan. My role in the Under the Sun Project is helping in the Logistics department. I joined this project because I was moved by the Western Sahara cause. As humans, I believe we have a duty to support each other in any way we can, despite geographical or language barriers, and projects like Under the Sun join people from all paths of life to form a positive change.
