About Our Project

Empowering the community.

On the north-western side of the African continent, there is a country left behind. A country, which proclaims to be Africa’s last colony, is still standing under the partial ruling of the Moroccan government. A country with its people dreaming of being free. It is where people are unable to have a specific political stand or identify with their ethnically Saharawi roots. It drove a large number of Sahrawi people to a particular refugee camp in Tindouf, Algeria, where temperatures reach 55°C regularly, the water supply draws short, and the houses are weakly built.

Western Sahara refugees live in the Southern-West Algerian desert of a remote and harsh environment. They are solely dependent on foreign aid to fulfill basic human needs such as food, gas, medicine, and water. Under the Sun ultimately aims to improve the living conditions of Western Saharans in the refugee camp in Tindouf, Algeria. We wish to raise awareness about the Western Sahara conflict to gain widespread recognition and restore their liberty one step at a time.
